Cry for Help [Modern Hyakumonogatari: Kowai Hanashi 13/99]

Cry for Help (助けを呼ぶ声)

By Nishiurawa in "Modern Hyakumonogatari: Kowai Hanashi"
This is a story from when Yomo was a child.

During summer vacation, his family was hosting a barbecue.
While the parents were getting ready for the barbecue, Yomo and his younger sister Nori went to go play by the river.
Their parents told them not to go in the river so they just played on the riverbank for a while, but at some point Yomo realized he couldn't see Nori anywhere.
   "Nori!!!"
He called her name but there was no response. He looked around and couldn't see his parents anymore because of how far down the river they had gone.
He felt helpless and tears began streaming down his face.
   Brother, help me!!!
He heard his sister crying for help over by a rocky area.
He rushed to the top of the rocky area and could see his sister calling for help in the middle of the river.
The water was up to her waist and she was desperately clutching on to a boulder that wasn't being moved by the water.
   Brother, help me!!!
"I'm coming to help you just wait right there"
Yomo got down off the rock and tried putting one foot into the river. The current was stronger than he thought.
He clutched on to a rock and tried putting his foot in again.
"Hey! I told you not to go in the river!"
He thought he heard his father's voice and then he was grabbed from behind and lifted on top of the rock.
His father had a terrified look on his face.
   "Oooh, brother's in trouble~"
Behind his father, Nori was standing there making fun of him.
   "But... Nori was..."
He turned around and looked at where Nori had been crying for help. A rotting, torn up sleeping bag was caught on the boulder.
