Snapshot [Fuan no Tane+ #12]

I found out that there are actually four chapters from Fuan no Tane+ that have already been translated floating around, this chapter being one of them. For the interest of completeness, and since those translations came from really bad scans, I'd still like to do my own translations of them. But, since they're already available I'll make sure to also include a new chapter in case you've already read these, so that means I'll be posting two chapters tonight.

The other ones are #16 "Grandpa's Ochonan", #32 "School Photo", and #33 "Prior Engagement?", so when I get to those I'll make sure to also include a new one.

So, here's chapter 12, Snapshot!

By the way, if you're curious, I think the blackout in this chapter is referencing this (news article in English here).

Verdict? [Fuan no Tane+ #8]

Translating the 7th chapter has taken longer than I anticipated so I've decided to go ahead with the 8th chapter for today. I'll be sure to post the 7th as soon as I finish!

Also, from now on I'll post the first panel of the next chapter after the jump as a small preview of the next release.

Koukai no Naraku [Yuu Vol. 10]

This is another oneshot from Yuu volume 10. The title translates to something like "Hell of Regret". Let me know what you think!

The Way Home [Yuu Vol. 10]

So this is a oneshot from volume 10 of a horror magazine (or "ghostly magazine" as they call it) called Yuu (幽), website here. It contains short stories by various authors (some of which I'm working on translations of to post here), articles about things that are paranormal in some way (in this issue there was an article about the internet trend called ひとりかくれんぼ (or "one man hide and seek" as it's known in the west I think) and a collection of interviews about the dark side of maid cosplay, haha), photographs, "true" stories, and there's an annual literary prize, so in this issue there was a section written by people involved with the judging process with commentary about the entries and what makes a good horror story.

There's also a manga section. This issue had four 6-page stories and a 12-page story each by a different mangaka. The one that I chose to translate for today is kind of similar to Fuan no Tane in that it has that urban legend, real-ish feel to it, though slightly longer and with more dialog.

Scheduling Update

I received an email that one chapter a week might be too slow for Fuan no Tane+ and I agree. I'm going to try to gradually increase the rate that I post the stories starting with two each week, once on Monday and again on Friday. If it's not too much work then I'll increase the frequency even more.

Keep in mind that I'll also be posting other translations in addition to Fuan no Tane+ starting next week (probably Wednesday).

Look forward to chapter 2 of Fuan no Tane+ on Monday!

Daily Routine [Fuan no Tane + #1]

Introduction

I'll keep this quick and get right to it: as a fan of Japanese horror I decided to start this blog in order to introduce more works of the genre to the steadily growing pool available to English speakers. My current project is Fuan no Tane Plus, the sequel to the amazing Fuan no Tane, which I hope to post chapters from at a regular pace (I'm thinking every Friday).

On the horizon you can expect some previously unavailable (in English) works by a couple of well-known horror mangaka, and in between the regular Friday updates I have a good number of more obscure but equally interesting manga that you might enjoy.

So I'll start tomorrow with the first chapter of Fuan no Tane + and see where it goes from there!
