Striped Shirt (縦縞のシャツ)By Nishiurawa in "Modern Hyakumonogatari: Kowai Hanashi"
One afternoon, Ranshima was driving on the highway and saw a kid walking along the shoulder.
The kid looked to be no more than 5 or 6 years old and was wearing a striped shirt, but because of the sun's glare he couldn't make out much detail.
Ranshima gave the child room and passed by.
After driving for a while, there were flares on the road and traffic was being redirected.
The electronic road sign read "ACCIDENT AHEAD".
Soon after that, a badly damaged station wagon lying on its side in the middle of the road came into view. Far in front of it there was a person lying in the road with the same shirt that he had seen before. He was surrounded by EMTs who were desperately trying to resuscitate him.
(Could that be the child I saw earlier?)
He looked closely as he drove past.
But it was a young man with dyed blond hair.
