Tofu (豆腐)
By Nishiurawa in "Modern Hyakumonogatari: Kowai Hanashi"
Early one morning, Madarame was taking a walk and found a tofu shop on the outskirts of a small shopping district.
He peeked inside and it was filled with a delicious soy milk smell.
"Welcome! What can I get for you?"
A cheerful young clerk greeted him while wiping his hands on his apron.
And with that, he bought two blocks of silken tofu and returned to his house.
"I've brought back some tofu. Could you make miso soup with it?"
His wife who was preparing breakfast looked into the bag that Madarame handed to her and laughed.
"Were you tricked by a tanuki somewhere this morning?"
When she said that, he looked into the bag and found two old, used kitchen sponges in it.
The next morning, he went to where the tofu shop was and there was nothing but a small inari shrine.
Had a good laugh. Oh you tricky tanuki.
